The "SUNDANGAY" is a traditional Filipino knife of Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.
Its nickname "the Istukada knife" is in honor of the great knife fighter Jesus "Lalo" Revolos, an expert of the "Istukada" style of fighting who was able to survive an attack of 5 men armed with bolos and knives by killing 2 of them. The other 3 aggressors ran away.

ISTUKADA is the filipinization of the Spanish word ESTOCADA meaning THRUST.
The accentuated angle of the handle makes the Sundangay perfect for thrust.
In the picture:
- the top knife is the personal Sundangay of Jesus "Lalo" Revolos;
- the bottom knife is a replica conceived by the Filipino Martial Arts Center of Excellence and produced by "Project Accessori srl" (www.project1972.it)
Special thanks to Maestro Aurtenciano Miranda Jr and Maestro Jorge Miranda for providing the original Sundagay of their uncle and to Paolo La Manna for realizing the project.
